Where to start…

I took the summer off from doing anything school or blog related. Instead,  I dedicated my time to my children, my writing, and to cementing my own happiness. It was one of the best summers we have had in years! We spent the months playing outside, swimming in the outdoor splash pools, vacationing in WI, and …. I brought back the family adventure trip after missing it last year!

This year, I planned our family adventure for Orlando, Florida! The kids were all thrilled with the idea, despite the fact that they knew it would take us three days to drive down. Well, okay .. the teenagers weren’t excited about the long drive and … we had to bribe Andrew with cash to go … but once we arrived, everyone was happy.

On the first day of our trip, we went to a nearby beach. The kids and I played in the waves and enjoyed our first taste of Florida sun. My mom and brother flew in from Texas later that day to spend family time with us. We spent the next day at SeaWorld. It was a lot of walking, and by the end of the day, my mom and I knew that we were going to be in trouble when it came to walking through Disney. Our feet hurt terribly from walking on the cement all day long.

Thomas flew in that night from MN and the next day we all set out for Disneyworld. Mom and I armed ourselves with Ibuprofen to avoid the misery of hurting feet on the long day of walking.

Disney was everything we had hoped it would be for the kids. We spent the first half of the day together as a group. In the afternoon, my brother split off from us and took Andrew, Amanda, Alex, and Aidan. Thomas and my mom and I walked around with Zoe. She got to see every Princess attraction that she wanted. We all met up for dinner and were able to enjoy the fireworks as a family together.  On our way out of the park we also caught the light show on the castle. It was all magical. Magical.

The next day, my mom and brother flew out and went home and Thomas and I took the kids to Universal Studios. It was another great day as a family. We all walked through the park together in the early afternoon and later Andrew, Amanda, and Alex went on some rides while we took Aidan and Zoe through the park on our own. It was another spectacular day.

The next day, Thomas flew back to Minnesota. The kids and I spent one more day lounging at the pool. I also spent the day doing laundry and packing the van for our trip back.

We drove down to FL in three days but made the trip back to MN in two long 13 hour days. It was a tough, long ride, but well worth it. The kids did pretty well with the traveling, with the exception of once incident between Aidan and Alex. Aidan kept sucking on his Milk Duds and then spitting the caramel out at Alex. Alex collected all of the pieces of caramel and when he had a big enough wad, stuck it in Aidan’s hair. Aidan was destroyed over this and cried non-stop until I reached a gas station in the middle of nowhere Kentucky where I could assess the damage. I had to go into the gas station and buy a razor and shave the caramel out of his hair. Needless to day, he didn’t spit anymore Milk Duds at Alex.

We had a wonderful Summer, full of adventure and fun. Now school is back in session and life is settling back into a regular routine. As things fall into place, I hope to get caught up in my blog too.
