Good-bye, Princess Oscar!

While I was in Ontario, I got a call from the animal rehabber …. Princess Oscar, aka Oscarinie had healed enough to be ready for release.

She asked me if I could release her on Tuesday along with another black bird.

I am going to admit it …. I was sad to let go of the hope that she might come back to us even though I was also happy that she would get a chance to enjoy a normal bird’s life flying, building nests, and laying eggs.

Tuesday at noon, I picked the birds up and brought them to a nearby wetland for release.

The black bird took off the instant that his box was opened.  He didn’t look back.

  1. You’re awesome Kris. An animal lover after my own heart <3
We rehabbed and released a mocking bird when I was a kid. We fed it with tweezers and a medicine dropper. He(?)lived in a fish tank in our living room for about a month. After we released him, he stayed around the house/fence line, for almost a year. It was so very cool. :)
Can't wait to hear of your future rehabs!
